      Marlon D. Henderson, DDS, FACD is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana. He is the son of Martha W. and the late, Cecil R. Henderson. He is a graduate of Northwood High School, where he was Class Valedictorian. Dr. Henderson graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge with a Bachelor of Science degree. He received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry in New Orleans. Dr. Marlon D. Henderson then completed a General Practice Residency at the Medical Center of Louisiana (Charity Hospital) in New Orleans, where he served as Chief Resident.

 

       Presently, Dr. Henderson serves as Immediate Past President of the National Dental Association and as Secretary of the Diverse Dental Society. In 2023, he served as the 99th President of the National Dental Association (having served as NDA President-Elect in 2022, Vice-President in 2020 & 2021, Secretary in 2019, Assistant Secretary in 2017 & 2018). His Presidential Theme was "Bridging the Generational Gap: Back to the Future of Advancing Oral Health Equity, Student Mentorship, and Raising Our Profile." Additionally, in 2023, Dr. Henderson was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Dentists. In 2020, Dr. Henderson received the NDA President's Award (awarded by the 96th NDA President, Dr. Sheila L. Armstrong). In 2021, he completed the American Dental Association's Institute for Diversity in Leadership Program (IDL Project: "Diversifying Dentistry Through Mentorship"). He has served as a member of the Louisiana Health Care Commission (2016-2019). Dr. Henderson is a Past President of the Pelican State Dental Association (2014-2015). In 2014, he was featured in Incisal Edge Dental Magazine's "40 Under 40" edition. In 2009, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023. Dr. Henderson was featured in the Shreveport-Bossier Magazine as a "Top Dentist." In 2020, he was honored to be pictured on the cover of the SB Magazine Top Docs edition. And, from 2005 to 2010, Dr. Marlon D. Henderson served as an LSU School of Dentistry Alumni Association Board Member.

      

      Since returning to Shreveport, Dr. Henderson has delivered numerous keynote speeches and participates in many community organizations and projects. In 2014, Dr. Marlon D. Henderson received the Caddo-Bossier-Desoto Parish "Make a Difference" Achievement Award. Additionally, Dr. Henderson was honored as a member of the "Top 40 Under 40" Class of 2014 at an awards gala sponsored by the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce/The Forum News. Dr. Henderson is a Lifetime Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. He is a Past Basileus (President) of the Rho Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated (2009-2013), Keeper of Records and Seal (2007-2009), and Reporter (2017-2021). And, he has served as the Ninth District Omega Undergraduate Advisor Overseer for Louisiana (2013-2018). He currently serves as Chairman of the Ninth District Omega Medical-Health Initiatives Committee (2019-Present).  In 2012 & 2013, Dr. Henderson was awarded the Superior Service Award from the Ninth District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. Dr. Henderson is also Second Vice-President of the Martin Luther King Community Development Corporation. In 2008, Dr. Marlon D. Henderson was named "Board  Member of the Year" of the MLK-CDC. Most importantly, Dr. Marlon Henderson is a faithful member and assistant clerk of the Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church. In 2015, Dr. Marlon D. Henderson was named one of Goodwill M.B.C.'s Unsung Heroes.

      

      Dr. Marlon D. Henderson is a dedicated husband and father. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, attending music festivals/concerts, photography, and learning to "play" the alto saxophone. He is an avid LSU (Geaux Tigers!), New Orleans Saints (Who Dat?), and New Orleans Pelicans (Won't Bow Down) sports fan!
